sir,
I have the honour to refer to your despatch Staff No.88 of 25th November, 1948, enclosing a petition addressed to His Majesty the King by the European Inspectors' Association of the Hong Kong Police Force, on the subject of the revised conditions of service for members of the Hong Kong Police Force introduced as a result of the recommendations of the Salaries Commission, 1947.
2. The peition has been laid before His Majesty, who has directed that the petitioners be informed that he has carefully considered the grounds of the petition, but understands that legislation is being considered in the Colony of Hong Kong to assure the pension rights of officers appointed from United Kingdom Police Forces other than the Metropolitan Police. The King does not feel able to direct any further action in the matters dealt with in the petition.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
fagd) A. Creech Jones.

SIR ALEXANDER GRANTHAM, K.C.M.G.
